Mrs. Van Wilgen was born and raised in Orange County, California. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education with an emphasis in Literature and her secondary teaching credential from California State University of Long Beach. She has continued to develop as a professional educator through extension programs like the San Jose Writing Project. Additionally, she is a proud member of the California Association of Teachers of English (CATE), National Educator Association (NEA), Modern Language Association (MLA), and the Academy of American Poets. Recently, she was accepted into Pi Lambda Theta: an international honor society for educators. Currently Mrs. Van Wilgen is attending an education-focused Master's of Arts program through San Jose State University.
Mrs. Van Wilgen lives in San Jose, CA with her husband. Mr. and Mrs. Van Wilgen are the proud parents of Dixie, a yellow lab, and Pearl, a spoiled house cat. The Van Wilgens spend their time exercising, reading, and cooking delicious cuisine. When possible, Mr. and Mrs. Van Wilgen travel to Southern California to visit family and friends.

Mrs. Van Wilgen has been teaching for four years at Union Middle School. She counts her lucky stars everyday that she is able to work with Mrs. Dunavan and Mrs. Smith. They all teach 7th grade English/Language Arts and make a fantastic team. Go Tigers!
